Parshas Vayera
Hi everyone, I hope this helps you go into your Shabbos more prepared and I hope you learn something new! This week’s Parsha is called, Parshas Vayera.
Parshas Vayera tells over the story of the Akadas Yitzchak (AH-KAY-DAS YI-TZU-CHAH-CK). The Akadas Yitzchak is a very import and well known story that goes like this: Hashem tells Avraham Avinu (Abraham our forefather) go to Mount Moria (Moh-ree-uh) and “Take your son, your only son, the one you love, Isaac….) and offer him as a sacrifice to me. So Avraham did exactly as G-d had told him to and he took Yitzchak (Isaac) to Mount Moria. When Avraham told his thirty seven year old son Yitzchak that he was going to schecht (Yiddish for slaughter,) him, Yitzchak didn’t even question his father, he just did as he said. And Avraham didn’t even tell him that Hashem gave the command. So, they arrived where Hashem had commanded Avraham to take his son to, and Avraham built a Mizbayach (alter) there. Yitzchak in an unbelievable act of loyalty tells his father Avraham to bind him so he shouldn't accidentally move during the slaughter and so Avraham bound his son to the Mizbayach. As Avraham lifted up his knife, Avraham heard, “Avraham!” And Avraham said “Here I am” and the Malachi (angel) said back to him, “Avraham, you do not need to kill your beloved son Yitzchak, Hashem was just testing you to see if you have strong Emuna (faith) in Him, and you have past the test.”
We can learn from this story, the "Akaidas Yitzchak" many important lessons. The main lesson we should walk away with from this story that every Jew has amazing potential & no matter how “far away” he is, he still has great potential.
There’s a term in Yiddish, “A pintele yid” meaning every Jew has inside him a little spark that we inherted from Avraham. Depending on how one lives his life is how big the spark will become.
May we all merit to have our “A pitntele yid” grow more and more each and every day! -Amen!
HAVE A GREAT SHABBOS AND WEEKEND!
Stay tuned for next week’s Parsha called, Parshas Toldos.
